‘Lithium Works’ Program Offers Pathways to New Industry Jobs
A public-private partnership aimed at preparing Arkansas workers for jobs in the emerging lithium extraction industry held a workshop this month in Magnolia to answer questions and share what kinds of careers might be available.
Lithium Works is one of two complementary workforce education initiatives funded by the Arkansas Higher Industry Readiness through Educational Development (HIRED) Grant Program.
It is operated by The Venture Center of Little Rock and aims “to build an end-to-end talent pipeline platform for lithium employers focused on Southwest Arkansas’ (SWA) communities, schools and businesses.”

During the event, attendees heard about the industry’s growth, the kinds of skills employers will need and the importance of workforce development as demand rises.
“We’re trying to bring this information to the communities as soon as possible,” said Patrick Carter, the program’s manager. “So if there are those who are wanting to prepare for these jobs or wanting to further their education and make themselves more marketable, this gives them ample time.
The workshop is part of a broader push across South Arkansas to build a workforce pipeline before large-scale lithium projects fully come online.
