Smackover Lithium Officials to Hold Community Meeting Sept. 17

Officials with Smackover Lithium have scheduled a community meeting at 4 p.m. Thursday, Sept. 17, at the Lafayette County High School Gymnasium.

  • The company — a joint venture between Standard Lithium Ltd. of Vancouver, British Columbia, and Equinor of Stavanger, Norway — is planning construction of a $1.5 billion commercial direct lithium extraction plant in Lafayette County.

  • The South West Arkansas Project could be the first commercial-scale DLE plant operating in Arkansas, employing more than 100 people.

  • Smackover Lithium aims to reach a final investment decision and begin construction on the plant this year.

Company officials said the meeting will offer a chance for community members to get an update on where the project stands and what’s next, as well as meet local construction contractors who will take part in the project.

Doors open at 4 p.m. The company will present a project update at 5 p.m., with a question-and-answer session scheduled for 5:30 to 6:30 p.m.
